Chaos and Complexity articles

This page will contain articles which explain both the nature and implications for astrology of developments which have occurred in science and mathematics in recent decades. The focus will be on the conceptual schemes such as Chaos Theory and Complexity Theory which have emerged from explorations of non-linearity in the behaviour of dynamic systems. The goal is to make these concepts readily accessible to those interested in astrology so that their implications can be integrated into astrological practice and theoretical modelling.

Revisioning astrology as a process - August 2004
This short essay attempts to explain why astrologers should take the implications of Chaos and Complexity theories seriously. It suggests that astrology and science shared a vision of the Cosmos as orderly and knowable. The disintegration of this vision within science has led to a re-appraisal of predictability and the emergence of systems thinking, which emphasises process over structure. Astrologers need to take on board the new perceptions in science concerning the nature of order and predictability if their efforts to make useful statements about reality are to have maximum value.     view article
